Hi, I'm Sydney!

My Story
I have always been fascinated by design. I grew up in an artistic family and started creating at a very young age. Charcoal, graphite, pastels, and colored pencils were the tools I used to create my world.
Eventually, as I got older, I started teaching myself how to paint. Acrylics on canvas was foreign territory to me, but I was so intrigued and inspired by the capabilities of this medium. Over the course of 7 years I painted day and night trying technique after technique, having many failures but learning a lot in the process. It was at this point that I started getting attention for my art and decided to pursue it as my career.

For 2 years, I made art my full-time income, selling paintings, taking part in various art exhibitions and publications, but eventually, the inconsistent income and the constant hustle began to wear on me. I needed a way to make a huge career change that would support both my life and my creativity.

While running my business, I made many different business websites and taught myself the ins and outs, but there was still so much I did not understand. I may have understood good fine art design, but I did not understand what made a good website design. Intrigued by what motivates or deters users from making purchases on a website, I started to research empathetic, user intentional designs and low and behold I found the wonderful world of UX/UI.

Interested in this mix of sociology, anthropology, user empathy and design principles, I enrolled in an intensive UX/UI bootcamp program with Thinkful, where I would be fully tested and challenged. This is when I realized that my long standing creative background, my love and empathy for people, and my passion for design were tools that were going to make me a great UX/UI designer.
